Social media are tools for online communication that help people interact with each other through the exchange of information. The popularity of social media such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram is constantly growing in Ukraine. Over the past 7 years, the Facebook audience has grown 85 times (from 63 thousand to 5.4 million). After the closure of the Russian networks Odnoklasniki.ru and Vkontakte.ru, the Ukrainian Facebook audience increased by 35% on the first day of the ban.

Social media sites allow users to interact and communicate with others, exchange or use information, generate followers who can see and repost the content of others.

4. News feed: when a user interacts with other users on social networks, they thereby give a sign “I want to see information from these people”. This information is displayed in the news feed in real time on their page.
5. Personalization: social media usually provides the ability to edit the user’s personal data, change and personalize their profile so that it looks the way the user wants.
6. Notifications: any site or application that notifies users of certain information performs the function of a social network to some extent. Users can fully control these notifications and choose which notifications they want to receive and where: only in their messenger or also in their mailbox.
7. Information update, storage and distribution: if a site or application allows you to post and distribute information in the form of text, photo materials, video, link to an article, then it is a social network.

Review, rating and voting system: in addition to the ability to mark the news with the “Like” button or comment on it, many sites of the type of social networks encourage a review of this opinion and rating, there are also opportunities to vote on the information that users have read or used for its usefulness or relevance.
